After being sidelined for nearly a year due to a torn ACL in July 2023, WWE star Sonya Deville has returned to the ring. In a recent interview with WWE Deutschland, Deville opened up about the grueling recovery process she endured to get back in action.
“I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. It’s a long, grueling recovery,” Deville shared. “You think you’re going to have the surgery, and in a few months, you’ll be feeling great, but it takes much longer than that. I was back to lifting weights and working out months into the process, but I still couldn’t run, sprint, or make sharp movements.”
Although Deville is now wrestling without any knee pain, she admitted that regaining full confidence in her abilities is still a work in progress. Reflecting on her return, she revealed feeling nervous before her first match back, but once inside the ring, she felt a sense of familiarity. However, she emphasized that there’s still work to be done.
“I definitely thrive on repetition,” Deville added. “I’ve been training a lot outside of TV. The more reps, the better. But, surprisingly, I felt great when I got back in the ring.”
Since her return to WWE TV, Deville has made an impact by teaming up with Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark to form a new faction called Pure Fusion Collective. However, despite the hype surrounding their formation, the group has experienced mixed results inside the ring so far.
