AEW has been navigating a wave of injuries lately, with some details revealed by President Tony Khan and others remaining under wraps. One notable wrestler who has been sidelined is former AEW TNT Champion Powerhouse Hobbs, but he is now set to return.
“Hobbs is cleared now,” Dave Meltzer announced on “Wrestling Observer Radio,” suggesting that AEW could make significant strides with Don Callis’ family. Hobbs made an appearance at AEW WrestleDream, where he was seen in the crowd as Kyle Fletcher assisted Konosuke Takeshita in defeating Will Ospreay for the AEW International Championship.
Hobbs sustained a torn patella tendon back in April during a title match against then-IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Jon Moxley on AEW Dynamite. Since then, Tony Khan has kept fans updated on Hobbs’ recovery, expressing optimism about his progress in September. After undergoing surgery, Hobbs diligently met with doctors and was reportedly cleared in September, waiting for new creative opportunities.
Having joined AEW in 2020, Hobbs has transitioned through various factions, starting as a member of Team Taz before it disbanded. Following a brief reign as TNT Champion and a feud with Wardlow, he became part of QT Marshall’s QTV, a parody of TMZ, although that stint was short-lived. In 2023, Hobbs found his footing within the Don Callis Family, providing him with opportunities to face notable competitors like Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Chris Jericho, and Jon Moxley.
